Job Summary:
You will play a crucial role in regulating bed availability throughout the hospital. You'll oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges in real-time to ensure efficient patient flow and throughput. This position requires effective communication with various hospital departments and personnel to coordinate bed availability and patient status effectively.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor the admit status of patients from the Emergency Department to the inpatient/observation setting.
- Communicate with ER staff, ED care managers, house supervisors, and other relevant personnel regarding patient status and bed availability.
- Review medical admit orders for accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct walking rounds with inpatient charge nurses to assess bed availability.
- Verify insurance information for accurate billing purposes.
- Maintain positive interactions with physicians, department directors, and staff members.
- Operate the hospital's electronic bed board efficiently.
- Complete daily hospital census reconciliation.
- Anticipate and address potential barriers to admissions and patient transfers.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in an acute care or related healthcare setting, or strong customer service experience.
Preferred:
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Confidence in communicating with community healthcare organizations.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
